That says, “when  you sell your car I will buy it...” because I came close yesterday.

I don’t know what it is, but I see interesting cars parked in this parking space all the freaking time. From an XJ Cherokee that was clearly all geared up for rally purposes, to an Audi S6 wagon, an S4 wagon, an E39 wagon just the other day, and now this guy:

Kinja'd!!!

328d xdrive wagon, in the best color. I’ve seen this car in town before and I’ve almost left a note on the windshield. Maybe next time.

Kinja'd!!!

Anyone ever left such a note?? Did it work??

No one ever sells old Toyotas, though, they get passed down to the next generation.

I’ve had the urge many times, and have done it a couple times, but no calls.

I did end up selling my KTM to a guy by leaving my business card on his KTM (he parked in my parking garage).

The postmaster in the little town my grandparents lived in owned an 80's Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe that was very clean. I actually talked to her multiple times about it, and left a note with my contact info. One day I stopped seeing it and she informed me she sold it. So it did not work out.

My old director has a 328 manual wagon. He gets offers on it all the time but he’s gonna keep it forever, I think. I almost got to drive it but I wound up driving his automatic 3-series instead.

He has a Turo fleet he rents out, so yeah all his cars are keepers.

When I park my Z at a busy lot like Home Depot I usually get a note offering to buy it, I have many in my glovebox. Sometimes they say they had one new and if I ever wanted to sell it keep their number. I have maybe three in the glovebox of the Mercedes with similar notes. The Dodge isn’t done but I can imagine we will get notes on it, I have never seen one around here and it should get some attention.

I have received 2 notes on my car about my car. Both were earlier this year. One wanted to buy, and the other was an appreciation note. Very flattered both times. I have never left one tho....

There was an owl living in the tree in front of my place and I don’t know what it ate but it shit like crazy so I parked the M5 up the block for a bit and my neighbor gave me this note about my car.

It hasn’t worked for me yet but I only left them on cars people usually hold on to. I’ve had them left for me as well and although it didn’t work out, it was still a nice ‘compliment’

I had lots of verbal offers on my old truck, the ‘72 . Less so on the ‘61 for some reason. More comments, fewer “I want it”

Two friends told me “I can’t believe you sold your wagon” when I told them that I sold it in June. I’m like, well I didn’t do it quietly, but ok.

Seriously it’s like a loss in the family, like watching a unicorn escape your net. Hopefully the buyer made it worth your while.

Semi-related: after buying my boat, a guy nearby stopped by the house where it was docked to ask whose it was. Turns out a neighbor also looked at it, but hesitated. Considering how much I love it, I’m not sure I would have been able to live with seeing someone else driving it all the time. It would have killed me. I’ve not seen another like it for sale within 500 miles in the 3 years since.

The other comments I get in person are at gas stations when I fill up. And I thought it would be dudes but it turns out many a lady were dating guys back then with a Z and they must have gotten lucky in them by the way they tell the story, they seem very happy about seeing a Z. Ma’am please take a step back....

Yeah, it was an easy sale to a good owner and I got $100 less than asking price. Can’t really ask for more than that. PLUS, I’m not going to get endless texts from my friend asking “did your car ever do THIS before?” and so on...

I’ve never left a note, but I’ve asked if it’s for sale. I exchanged contact info once but nothing came of it.

I ‘ve received two notes on the 02 asking if it’s for sale. I get at least one offer every time I take it to C&C. Also super weird but worth mentioning, I/the car have been “hit on ” twice by older women. I think that’s more times than I have been hit on in my life.

As I would I imagine with your truck people are often giving you the thumbs up or commenting at stop lights. That is the case with the 02 as well, but on two separate occasions, women who I would guess are late 40s-mid 50's (I’m 34 ) have made advances. Both started off showering the car with compliments the first lady asked where I was going. To which I responded “home to my wife and child.” The other lady just kept complementing the car and then said some gross things.

So funny that a boxy little car attracts that kind of attention.

What annoyed me was that she was always seemed to be excited that I was so excited about her car. I had hoped she would have liked to have seen it go to someone who cared, instead of selling it to some random .

I had a tangentially related experience with a truck. My grandfather left me his little black & red GMC S-15 when he passed away. I was only 13 at the time so it was going to be a while before I could drive and my folks already owned 4 cars. After some convincing I let my dad sell it to a friend of his who needed a truck, on the condition that he give us the first call if he ever wanted to get rid of it. He agreed, and then a few years later he sold it to his nephew without telling us. Oh, and a week later his nephew got drunk and wrap it around a telephone pole.

Regarding the boat, that’s pretty cool that you managed to snag it. Sometimes you’ve got to be willing (and financially able) to pull the trigger when the opportunity arises. I’ve missed out on a ton of good deals on cool vehicles because I was dumb and perpetually broke when I was younger. But I’ve got my finances straight now and am actually in the market for interesting things. Teaser - I may have good Oppo content coming soon about a 22 year old Volvo.

I used to work at a Home Depot and I used to get notes on the windshie l d of my Cobalt in the parking lot . Not to buy it, just to go on dates. But the person never signed them or left a number, and there were like 20 women who worked in the store, so I never did figure out who it was . It was very bizzare.

Ha! That is interesting... and weird, about the kid of attention the ‘02 gets. I mean, it’s an amazing car, but I wouldn’t have expected that.

I guess the closest I’ve come to leaving a note was when I bought my ‘72 F100. The conversation went like this:

- Hey is that the truck I saw for sale just up the road last week?

+ Yup

- Oh... did you buy it then?

+ Nope

- Uhh, then you decided not to sell it?

+ Nah, i t’s still for sale

- Oh. How much?

+ I don’t know, what do you think it’s worth?

And so on, until I ended up buying it for the same amount that it was sold for when new back in 1972, by pure coincidence. And I’m still friends with the seller.

Sell what? Montes? S-15s? Boats? Volvos? Or vehicles in general?  I am confused.

You were just lamenting about not getting a car even though the owner knew you wanted it and was excited about it....

No idea why she sold it. I did track her down one day and asked about and she just goes “Yeah, I sold it, sorry ” and then went on about her business, no reason given. And I didn’t follow up.

I just thought it was weird. If someone was super into my car I’d contact them if I wanted to sell it. I would want to see my car go to someone who was into it, but also I would think I might get more for it from an enthusiast  vs. haggling with strangers. But then agian who knows the situation, maybe she needed cash in hand for some emergency. Or maybe she just lost my number. I guess I’ll never know.

Never had a note, but I had a guy chat me up at a stop sign for several minutes. We exchanged numbers and he’ll likely get first shot at the Saabaru.
